The One Linda Vista: Community Resilience to Gang Violence event came as a result of increasing incidences of gang violence and gang presence in Linda Vista. It embodied the spirit of OLV, built on the collaboration between Bayside Community Center, the University of San Diego (USD), the San Diego Western Police Department (SDPD), and Turn Around Youth (TAY). Hosted at Bayside with 30 attendees, the event centered around utilizing community assets to address gang violence and increase safety and security in the neighborhood. Presentations from USD and TAY, as well as testimonies from former gang members in attendance, focused on identifying strategies to unite the community around the concern instead of marginalizing it. One key recommendation put forth as a means to move forward on the matter was increasing the number of and access to after school programs to engage youth at an early age.
