Bayside Community Center’s Leadership Academy shaped the formation of One Linda Vista (OLV). Through the Cooperative Leadership Academy (CLA) and Resident Leadership Academy (RLA), residents were provided with the opportunity to study at the University of San Diego in an effort to deepen their wisdom, develop strategies, and sharpen advocacy skills to improve the quality of life in the Linda Vista community. They then grounded this academic knowledge in tangible action plans through weekly meetings at Bayside.
These programs provided a platform for discussion on the issues that the grassroots leaders in Linda Vista wanted to address such as education, housing, food security, and beautification of the community (gardens, parks, clean up days, etc). These discussions motivated the grassroots leaders to reach out to various institutions and community members in order to identify the ways to improve the quality of life in Linda Vista. One Linda Vista was born through the participants and as a result of these programs.
